Parker Hannifin Corporation is an American corporation that operates in the motion and control technologies markets. The company was founded in 1917 and remains one of the largest companies in the field of motion control technologies to this day. Parker products are found in a wide array of industries including aerospace, climate control, electromechanics, filtration, fluid and gas handling, hydraulics, pneumatics, process control, sealing, shielding, and more. At the company’s inception in 1917, Parker Appliance Company was a manufacturer of pneumatic brake systems for buses, trucks, and trains. In 1919, a truck carrying the bulk of the company’s inventory crashed, rendering the equipment useless. This halted the company and it did not operate again until 1924. 

In 1927, the company expanded into aviation. During World War II, Parker experienced a major boom when they served as the US Air Force’s primary supplier of valves and fluid connectors. In 1957, the company purchased Hannifin, a manufacturer of valve and cylinder products, and changed its name to Parker Hannifin. Economic downturn in the 1970s forced the company to broaden its horizons, and Parker Hannifin expanded into the automotive aftermarket. The company also bolstered its aerospace growth at this time. The company’s aerospace division, Parker Aerospace, designs and manufactures aerospace hydraulic equipment such as fuel system components and high-temperature bleed valves. Today, the company is based in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, and has nearly 60,000 employees.
